Communications

  • International Association of Business Communicators (Canada − Silver Leaf Awards) (2019)
    • Silver Leaf Awards recognize business communication excellence in Canada. We earned an award for our smart meter pilot communications.
  • International Association of Business Communicators (Global – Gold Quill Awards) (2019)
    • Gold Quill Awards recognize business communication excellence globally. We earned an award for our smart meter pilot communications.
  • Utility Communicators International (2019)
    • This is North America’s oldest awards program for utility communicators. We were awarded: Gold in the Employee Communications or Internal Campaign category — SaskPower Strategic Direction to 2030; Gold in the Safety Communications category — SaskPower Public Safety Campaign 2018; Silver in the Complete Campaign (Image or Branding) category —SaskPower’s Pasqua to Swift Transmission Line; Bronze in the Complete Campaign (Marketing) category — SaskPower’s Smart Meter Pilot.

Corporate Responsibility

  • Western Canada General Counsel Award (2022)
    • Rachelle Verret Morphy, Executive Vice President, Legal & Corporate Services and General Counsel was a recipient of this award in the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Category. This award recognizes a member (or former) of legal counsel who exhibits outstanding leadership in corporate responsibility and ESG leadership.
  • Sustainable Electricity Award (2022, 2023)
    • Electricity Canada awarded SaskPower the Sustainable Electricity Award for Leadership in External Collaboration and Partnerships in 2022. Recognizing our strong commitment to Indigenous Peoples, local communities and stakeholders through our Indigenous Customer Care Program and our Strategic Plan to mitigate the risk of wildfires in Northern communities.
    • In 2023, Electricity Canada’s Sustainability Awards recognized SaskPower for our efforts in advancing women in trades, advancing women in leadership and Indigenous recruitment and retention
  • Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) Gold Status (2017-2021)
    • Recognizes commitment and success of companies across Canada who lead in Aboriginal relations.

Finance

  • Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) Sustainable Electricity Company™ Designation (2019)
    • Based on the ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility, SaskPower is one of only nine Canadian utilities that have achieved this designation.

Human Resources

  • Canada’s Best Diversity Employers (2009-2024)
  • Canada’s Top Employers for Young People (2013-2024)
  • Saskatchewan’s Top Employers (2008-2024)
  • Outstanding Technical Training Team (2019)
    • Recognizes significant contributions to the success of Saskatchewan’s apprenticeship and trade certification system.

Power Production

  • POWER Top Plant Award (2020)
    • SaskPower’s Chinook Power Station, located near Swift Current, was a recipient of POWER Magazine’s POWER Top Plant award. Attributes contributing to the award:
      • Safety – only one lost-time injury in span of more then two million labour hours
      • Low costs – came in $75 million under budget
      • Emission reduction – highly efficient baseload power will contribute to help reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% from 2005 levels by 2030
      • Community – local and Indigenous businesses provided $140M and $9M respectively in contract work and 44% of on-site workforce were skilled trade workers from Saskatchewan

Public Service

  • Premier’s Award for Excellence in Public Service (2019)
    • SaskPower was selected for its efforts in promoting Indigenous procurement.

Properties

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) South Regina/South Saskatchewan Project of the Year (2023)
    • The award was presented to the Head Office Refurbishment project team. It acknowledges excellence and superior performance in project management.

Other

  • Edison Electric Institute Emergency Assistance Award (2019)
    • Edison Electric Institute presented SaskPower with its “Emergency Assistance Award” for its response efforts after a snowstorm hit Manitoba in October. The award is given to recognize outstanding efforts to assist other electric companies with power restoration after service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other major incidents.

Safety

  • Electricity Canada’s Lifesaving Award (2022)
    • Darrell Kalthoff, Supervisor of North Transmission was awarded for his bravery for perform first aid and hypothermia prevention on an elderly man in a ditch in weather with temperatures below -30C.
  • CEA Lifesaving Award (2021)
    • Daniel Bedard and Gus Wilson (contractor) provided CPR and revived a heart attack victim prior to him being transported by STARS.
