The Power Generation Partner Program (PGPP) allows customers to generate power and sell it back to us. The first ever PGPP solar project is now connected to the grid and we’re buying power from the producer.

1. How much power is being produced?

   A 284 kilowatt (kW) solar project located near Preeceville began generating power on June 27, 2020. S-Elect Energy Ltd. applied in the first year of the program. They’ve signed a 20-year contract that allows us to buy all the power they make. 

2. How does the program work?

   PGPP helps add up to 105 megawatts (MWs) of customer-generated power to the power grid over a 3-year program. This is one of the ways we can reach our 2030 emissions goal. 
   
   The program supports renewable and carbon neutral technologies. These include:

   • solar, biomass, biogas, hydro and geothermal, with projects ranging from 100 kW up to (and including) 1 MW
   • flare gas and waste heat recovery, with projects ranging from 100 kW up to (and including) 5 MW

   The 3rd year of the program was just launched this summer.

3. How many power producers signed up since the program launched?

   In the first 2 years of the program, there are 47 projects, totaling over 64 MWs of generation:  

   Year 1: 25 active projects

   •  Solar: 18 projects 
   • Flare Gas: 7 projects 

   Year 2: 22 active projects 

   • Solar: 10 projects 
   • Flare Gas: 12 projects 

4. Will there be a 4th year of the program?

   Right now, there’s no plan to extend the program. But customer generation will continue to play a role in our power future. 
   
   The learnings from PGPP will be used in future programming. 

5. How can people sign up for year 3 of the program? 

   The application window is open from Oct. 22 to Oct. 30. Pre-application meetings are happening from Aug. 4 to Oct. 2.
