Quotables:

  • On average, 20 employees are injured each year. Clearing a safe path helps keep everyone safe.
  • If our team can’t safely reach your meter, we may need to estimate your power use. That could affect the accuracy of your bill.
  • There are a few different ways you can submit your own meter reading — it just takes a couple minutes!

As snow and ice start to settle in, our meter readers need your help.  While smart meters are being installed across the province, many homes still need manual readings. That means our team of meter readers are out in all kinds of weather, and with winter just around the corner, your help in clearing a safe path to your meter makes a big difference!

Why It Matters

On average, 20 employees are injured each year on customer property. Slippery sidewalks, hidden tools, and pets can create hazards. Clearing a safe path helps keep everyone safe.

6 Simple Ways to Help

Here’s how you can make your meter accessible and safe for our team this winter:

  1. Clear a path to your meter.
  2. Make sure your gate can open easily and is not frozen or blocked by snow or ice.
  3. Use sand or ice melt on icy sidewalks and your driveway.
  4. Remove icicles hanging over meters.
  5. Check for buried tools like shovels or rakes under snow.
  6. Keep pets inside or on a leash.

Why We Still Need to Read Your Meter

If you don’t have a smart meter yet, we still need to manually read your meter to ensure your bill is accurate. In cities, this happens about every 3 months. In rural areas, about once a year.

What Happens If We Can’t Access Your Meter to Read It?

If our team can’t safely reach your meter, we may need to estimate your power use based on your previous usage. That could affect the accuracy of your bill.

Submit Your Own Meter Reading
