A new high voltage power line is needed to deliver power from the Chinook Power Station, which is currently under construction near Swift Current. The power station and the power line are expected to be in service in 2019.

Why we're doing it

This power line will improve service reliability to our customers in the Regina area and expand the amount of electricity we can transfer from the east and west regions of the province.

Our progress so far

We are wrapping up our planning phase, which includes consulting with affected landowners, elected officials and other stakeholders in the area.

Minimizing the impact to you

Consultation with the community and affected landowners is important to us. We consider all input when selecting a route for a new power line. Once the route is selected it will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment for approval in January 2018.

Respecting the local environment

When building new power lines, we do everything we can to minimize our environmental impact by avoiding sensitive areas, wildlife and wildlife habitats. We closely follow all guidelines and regulations from the Ministry of Environment and take steps to reclaim the land after all construction is complete.

Benefits to your community

New power lines like this one not only help us provide more reliable service to our customers but may also present employment opportunities once the project gets underway. See current opportunities.

Keeping you informed

SaskPower’s consultation process includes meeting with municipalities, community representatives and landowners affected by the proposed power line. The feedback we’ve received through this process will be a critical part of our submission to the Ministry of Environment in January of 2018. Once we receive a response from the Ministry we’ll let our stakeholders know how their feedback influenced the decision and next steps in the power line’s development.
