Emissions

The Aspen Power Station plays a very important role in our power future. We continue to diversify our power system and phase out conventional coal generation by 2030 to meet federal regulations. The Aspen Power Station will help us achieve our target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner. It will also provide reliable power for customers when wind and solar power is not available.

Respecting the Local Environment

What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.

Both the federal and provincial governments regulate the Aspen project. Each government has its own area of responsibility. We’ll follow all applicable federal and provincial assessments and approval processes.

As we plan projects, we use tools like databases, satellite imagery and field surveys to understand the environment we are working in.

As projects move forward, we’ll make sure environmental protection standards are in place to reduce our impact on features like:

  • waterbodies
  • sensitive lands
  • wildlife and their habitats
  • heritage resources

We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.

For every power project we do, we follow best-practice standards. This helps us protect the environment no matter which stage the project is in.
