We’ve constructed and energized a new power line to support the additional power needed for the Foran Mining Corporation’s McIlvenna Bay project.
The new 138-kilovolt power line is is 78 kilometres long. It connects an existing line near Pelican Narrows to the site of the project, near the south end of Hanson Lake.
Our Progress So Far
Construction of the power line is complete, and the line has been energized. While the line is now in service, work in the area will continue as part of the final stages of the project. This includes:
- Reclaiming any land disturbed during construction, and
- Follow-up work by our operations crews, such as tightening the new power line to ensure long-term reliability.
How We Got Here
Before construction began, we completed detailed planning and engaged with Rightsholders, communities and stakeholders to help inform the project and reduce potential impacts.
Through this engagement, we:
- assessed different route options and selected a final route, and
- completed our Duty to Consult.
Feedback we received helped shape the final design and included:
- local knowledge of the area, including environmental, heritage and culturally sensitive features,
- identification of areas requiring special consideration, and
- concerns about the project and ways to further reduce impacts.
We continue to engage with Rightsholders, communities and stakeholders in the area to share updates, answer questions and support ongoing work related to the project.

Respecting the Local Environment
What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.
During planning and construction, we used tools like databases, satellite imagery and field surveys to understand the environment we are working in.
Environmental protection standards were put in place to reduce our impact on features like:
- Waterbodies
- Sensitive lands
- Wildlife and their habitats
- Culturally sensitive sites
We also worked with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we met all environmental requirements, and environmental considerations continue to guide reclamation and follow-up work in the area.
Project Outcomes
With the power line now in service, this investment is providing safe and reliable power for the Mcllvenna Bay project, while strengthening the power system in northern Saskatchewan.
