We're making the power grid stronger and more reliable in Regina’s downtown and surrounding areas. This year we’re investing $10 million to upgrade our power system which includes:

  • Installing and maintaining duct banks
  • Installing and replacing underground power lines

Why We’re Doing It

This investment will help make sure our customers in Regina’s downtown area have the power they need. These upgrades also give us more visibility into the grid. This will also help us find and restore power outages faster in the future.

Our Progress So Far

Since the project began in 2012, we have replaced the following:

  • Duct banks, which house our underground power lines.
  • Substations, where power is converted from a higher voltage to a lower voltage for safe delivery to customers.
  • Switches, the equipment that controls the flow of electricity.
  • Underground power lines.

This year’s work will be underway from April to October 2025. We’re also coordinating with the City of Regina. They’ll start ahead of our crews in April to relocate some city utilities to accommodate our work.

Minimizing the Impact to You

Some of this work will cause disruptions like:

  • road restrictions and closures
  • construction noise
  • planned power outages
We understand that power and construction activities are disruptive. We’re working closely with the City of Regina to streamline the work. Our crews will do their best to inform you about the impacts of the work ahead of time.

Work will usually be scheduled Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 5 pm. But there may be occasions where we’ll also have to work Sundays.

We do this to reduce impacts to businesses, and make sure we can finish the work as soon as possible.

Respecting the Local Environment

Our crews will use safe handling methods when disposing of hazardous materials. But we expect no impact to the local environment.

Benefits to Local Communities

Completing this work helps ensure our customers can benefit from increased power capacity to support future growth, faster outage restorations, and improved reliability.
