Sunbridge Wind Power Facility

The Seven Stars Wind Energy Project is a 200-megawatt (MW) wind facility that’s planned for the Weyburn area. We’ve signed an agreement with Seven Stars Energy Limited Partnership to purchase the power generated from this facility.

Project Stage: Plan, Define and Consult

The project involves a partnership between Enbridge Renewable Generation Inc. (Enbridge) and Six Nations Energy Development LP (Six Nations). Six Nations is a newly created consortium of Cowessess First Nation, George Gordon First Nation, Kahkewistahaw First Nation, Métis Nation-Saskatchewan, Pasqua First Nation and White Bear First Nation. They’ll own at least 30 percent of the project once it’s in operation.

In ideal conditions, the facility will produce equal to what’s needed to power about 100,000 homes.

Why Wind?

We’re investing in the province's power system to ensure reliable and affordable power for our customers and to support our growing province. We're also committed to achieving a net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions power system by 2050 or sooner. To achieve these goals, we need to add more emissions-free generation like wind and solar.

Wind generation is a cost-effective source of emissions-free power. Learn more about wind power and how it works.

Utility-scale wind projects complement our existing generation mix. But wind is an intermittent source, so when the wind doesn’t blow, we must rely on other supply options.

Progress So Far

Enbridge is pursuing emissions-free energy generation opportunities across North America to meet its corporate environmental, social and governance commitments.

This project is estimated to be in operation by 2027.

Respecting the Local Environment

What we do today impacts our future. We’re always working hard to reduce our impact and protect the environment.

As projects move forward, we’ll make sure environmental protection standards are in place to reduce our impact on features like:

  • waterbodies
  • sensitive lands
  • wildlife and their habitats
  • heritage resources

We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.

Project Benefits

The project will have the highest Indigenous investment of any Saskatchewan wind power generation project to date. It also reinforces our commitment to economic reconciliation by creating more opportunity for Indigenous partnership in power generation.
