We’re re-routing and rebuilding a part of the power line that connects the Charlot River, Waterloo and Wellington Power Stations to the Beaverlodge Switching Station near Uranium City. This investment will help ensure reliable power for those in the area for years to come.

Project Stage: Build and Energize

Why We're Doing It

The current power line is nearing the end of life. Re-routing the line will improve access to it for necessary maintenance and repairs.

Our Progress So Far

We completed the initial assessment and developed the line route. The new route required us to secure easements to expand part of our existing right-of-way and establish a new one. We are using self-weathering steel structures which means the right-of-way is 60 metres wide.

Rightsholder and stakeholder participation was important to us as we finalized the new route for the power line. We reached out to communities, rightsholders, and stakeholders in the area for feedback on:

  • General knowledge of the area, including environmental and heritage resources.
  • Concerns about the project, and how we can reduce impacts.
The project is expected to be completed in the winter of 2025.

Respecting the Local Environment

We understand that our work can affect the environment by disturbing wildlife, changing natural landscapes, and polluting soil or water. To reduce these impacts, we’ve created beneficial management practices and standards. For example, we schedule projects to avoid important times like bird nesting seasons, choose locations away from sensitive habitats, and prepare plans to respond to spills.

We also work with the Ministry of Environment and other regulatory agencies to ensure we meet all environmental requirements.

Project Outcomes

When complete, this investment will help ensure power reliability for homes and businesses in the area and will support future power demand.
