SaskPower Inviting Customers to Beware of Texting Fraud
December 05, 2017
Customers have flagged attempts by fraudsters to contact them via text, pretending to be the Crown utility. The scam indicates that SaskPower needs banking details to issue a refund owed to the customer.
SaskPower NEVER sends financial transactions through text messaging, email or social media. We take the confidentiality of personal customer information very seriously. Scammers will try to lure you by offering a refund or asking for personal information to get money. This can also lead to identity theft.
Scammers will include links in their messages. These links have no mention of SaskPower; they direct to a different website and not saskpower.com. If in doubt, please contact SaskPower customer service at 1-888-757-6937 to ask about the state of your account.
If you have become a victim of fraud or believe you are the target of fraudulent attempts, call your bank immediately for their guidance, as well as your local police department and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
