Solar Installations

The Renewable Subscription Service (RSS) offers an easy and more affordable way for you to offset your greenhouse gas emissions—without needing to add any new equipment to your home or business.

By enrolling in the RSS, you can match part or all of your power usage with renewable power. You can buy Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from local renewable sources, allowing you to claim the environmental benefits associated with renewable power production.

This offering is available to residential, small-to-medium business and farm customers.

Why Choose the RSS?

  • Offset Emissions with RECs: Buying RECs allows you to claim the emissions reductions from Saskatchewan’s renewable power generation to offset all or part of your own emissions.
  • Proclaim Your Participation: If you’re a business, let your customers know that you’re committed to offsetting your emissions.
  • Affordable and Simple: It’s an easy, cost-effective alternative to generating renewable power on your own.
  • Flexible Options: Pick the subscription that matches your power use and budget—whether it’s 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of what you use. You can change or cancel your subscription at any time, without penalty. Plus, you won’t need to make any changes to your equipment or facilities.

You can also learn more about the RSS by visiting our FAQs page.

How Much Will It Cost?

The cost for the service is $0.015 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

You can match 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of your power usage with renewable power.

The additional charge for the RSS will appear on your bill as “Renewable Subscription Service”.

Impact On Your Bill

The RSS will change your monthly bill based on how much power you use and your subscription level. The cost depends on the total kWh you use from SaskPower and the percentage you choose for the RSS.

To determine the impact on your bill, first look at how much power you consume. The picture below shows where to find this on your bill (it would be a good idea to look at your highest usage month so you can determine the full impact to your bill):

bill section

Take the total amount of power you use and multiply by the percentage you want to subscribe to. Then multiply that number by $0.015 to determine the amount you will pay for the RSS.

This charge will vary monthly based on your actual kWh usage. Reviewing a year’s worth of consumption can help you estimate costs for high-usage months.

For example: For the average customer who uses 734 kWh in a month and enrols in 25%, they’ll see a premium of $2.75 for that month. (734 kWh x 25%) x $0.015 = $2.75
